Christmas in May! Kanzashi Tree Ornaments

Kanzashi ornaments

Diane and I finally were able to schedule a play date so we could indulge in some crafty experimentation with the lovely Chirimen Japanese crepe fabric Arielle sent to me before she left Okinawa last fall.

Kanzashi ornaments seemed a perfect way to use this gorgeous, fluid, drapey rayon crepe material.

Butterflies in May: Black Work Butterfly Update

Black work Butterfl. Wing one done!

First Black Work butterfly wing completed!

And I am loving every minute spent working these intricate but simple stitches using one single tiny thin strand of embroidery floss!

Most likely, I will not complete my embroidered butterflies before the end of May as originally planned, but that's OK 'cause butterflies will be fluttering about on my Butterfly Tree until mid-July.

Butterflies in May: Embroidery Stitches New to Me!

Beginning Butterfly embroideries!

This month is not going quite as smoothly as planned - probably because I may have gotten a bit carried away with my butterfly project!!! Eyes bigger than my crafty time one could say!!! Or perhaps a skewed and unrealistic idea of the amount of time it takes to tap hundreds of tiny holes in tin or make hundreds of tiny stitches on fabric! So …. this is as far as I have gotten on three embroidered butterfly adventures!
