big button

Yay! The 2010 Stocking Giveaway has officially begun! I have been so excited about this particular giveaway I thought December would never get here!

I will tell you all about my own stocking and a little about it's contents in a minute! But first, be sure to pop over to Robin's post on Rsislandercrafts to get a list of all the participating blogs! Every participating blogger is giving away a stocking with goodies tucked inside! On December 8th, each blogger will select a winner for their own stocking from the comments left on their own post. So, if you enter more than one giveaway, you have a better chance of winning a stocking!

Robin is giving away three stockings!

And here is my stocking to be given away to the lucky winner!

The contest begins on December 1st and ends on my own blog at 6:00 PST on December 8th. Winner will be announced shortly there after!

International entries are welcome on my giveaway as well as Robin's.  Check with the other's for international status.

Enter by leaving me a comment on this post! Tell me the best surprise you ever found tucked inside your Christmas stocking!

I can't begin to tell you how excited I have been about making and stuffing and giving away this stocking!

The pink plush stocking is embellished with a Kanzashi which is only pinned on so that you can remove it if you wish and either add a pin back and make it into a pin or add a yarn tie and use it as an ornament. Or - just leave it on the stocking!

You can see three items peeking out of the top! Yes - that is a Matryoshka! And a Yarn Star.

Hiding inside are treats with which to celebrate St. Nicholas Day, St. Lucy Day, Las Posadas, "Angle Day" (my own little celebration on Dec. 10th), 2 craft kits to assemble, and other secret stuff!

Go visit Robin so you can visit the other giveaways and ... good luck everyone!

My surprise was tickets for a

My surprise was tickets for a trip after the holidays

We didn't have stockings in

We didn't have stockings in our family when I was a child. One year though I had to spend Christmas in hospital, and all our parents were asked to bring in a pillowcase for their child and ane each for any brothers and sisters. These pillowcases weere all filled with presents from the hospital staff. I didn't know anything about it ahead of time, so the best thing was the surprise of waking up to find a "stocking" on my bed.

I just stumbled across this

I just stumbled across this site while trying to remember how to make snowman/marshmallow ornaments. I am so happy I found you, the ornaments are exactly the way I remember making them, except we used to hang them from the tree, and yes we saved them for years. Anyway, this stocking is just beautiful. I come from a large, very traditional German family, so St Nick's was very important - BUT my birthday is also St. Nick's night, little money, lot's of kids plus a birthday and a holiday made the celebration small, but memorable. We always received fruit and a candy cane, never toys or trinkets. Ocasionally we would get something chocolate. We also always used our own socks, because it was considered more hygenic than using boots (as done traditionally) so I always tried to find my longest knee-highs. That trick never worked the way I planned it though :)

oh, your stocking is so cute!

oh, your stocking is so cute! I don't remember any specific item in a stocking - but I think there was always a book, pencils and a colouring in book, something that I've continued doing with my kids.

Let's see, the best surprise

Let's see, the best surprise I found tucked inside my stocking was a special pendant with 4 stones that my hubby bought me once, every stone represent my kids and a tiny one is the kid I have in heaven, the pendant has a special meaning for me as well, he (I mean Santa)gave to me the year we got 25 years married. I love Matryoshkas, love your giveaway and I'd love to win!

I don't remember any specific

I don't remember any specific thing. We fill the stocking with fairly inexpensive things like goodies to eat(orange, candy, nuts), coloring book or puzzle book or magazine, book marker, an ornament, hair stuff and nail polish for the girls, small cars for the boys. I liked to get handcrafted items the best.

Hello Pam, I found you

Hello Pam, I found you through Pam at Cloth to Creation. I would love to have a chance to win your pink stocking. Thanks for the tutorials and cookie recipes. Thanks for the fun. Have a wonderful week!

Santa would always stick a

Santa would always stick a small piece of jewelry at the toe - a ring, or necklace and it always made me feel so grown up.

When I moved to live in

When I moved to live in France, just for a winter, my Mum did me a mini stocking full of British treats. The most exciting present was a jar of marmite - you won't know what that is unless you're British (it's black sticky yeast extract that you have on toast) - wonderful...a real taste of home.

My stocking was a shoe box

My stocking was a shoe box which was filled with nuts, an orange, apple and loose hard candy. I remember picking off the bits of pecan hulls from my ribbon candy. It may sound bad but brings back great memories...still love that ribbon candy.

When I was little, I would

When I was little, I would always get hair clips & plastic toy bracelets & my brothers would get matchbox cars.
Now, when I see those plastic toy bracelets in the shops, I always smile. :)

Lovely stocking - the best

Lovely stocking - the best surprise I ever received was my engagement ring over forty years ago = trule wonderful.

LUV your stocking Pam. Well

LUV your stocking Pam. Well done! The little sweet things peeking out, I luv also.
I finally got my post up, late and without a stocking in site! But should have it all sorted by the 8th! Fingers crossed for me this time! :))) x

Our stockings were always

Our stockings were always filled with doo-dads (barrettes, ribbons, craft supplies) and necessities posing as gifts (underwear, pencils, toothbrush). There was always an apple or orange in the toe. The contents didn't matter; we loved opening our stockings. I often got a puzzle, and I'd say that was my favorite for the hours of entertainment it provided.

I always got nuts in the

I always got nuts in the shell in my stocking. This one is perfect for my little girl who is 2. Her older brothers all have stockings but I have not gotten or made her one yet.

Oh my gosh! I would love a

Oh my gosh! I would love a stocking from you. Just what I see peeking out would be amazing, and your list of other things tucked inside sounds so fun! What a fun giveaway to be a part of, Pam. You are so generous!

Rebecca

PS Out of all the stockings, yours sounds like the most fun!! ;)

I never had a stocking

I never had a stocking either...Did do them for my kids when they were little. Beautiful stocking!!

What a delightful stocking.

What a delightful stocking. We didn't have stockings when I was a child, but we do them for our children.
I can tell you that the most surprising gifts I ever got were three separate little boxes from the jewellery store, each one containing a pretty little trinket...but not the engagement ring I was expecting! My dear husband-to-be saved THAT box for New Years Eve, when he proposed on the stroke of midnight! Gill.

We didn't do stockings, but I

We didn't do stockings, but I do remember that we were given a whole big box of decorations one year from American friends who were leaving Indonesia where we were living at the time. They had a daughter called "Joy", like me, and I remember finding what must have been her stocking in that box... I was so excited to see a stocking with my name on it!! I never got anything in it, but it was lovely just to have it hanging up that year.

Thanks for joining in on this fun giveaway!

lv,
Joy

One year my Mom put some

One year my Mom put some make-up and scent items into my stocking which I had no idea I would get. I was young and so excited to get those girly things. Your stocking is very pretty, and it sounds like it's full of neat surprizes.

The best thing in my stocking

The best thing in my stocking one year was a plane ticket to travel from Virginia to Washington State to visit a friend. My husband worked it out so I could go visit her for 10 days! She took me to so many places and had the best and surprising itinerary! I loved the trip and will always remember that special stocking stuffer! I would love to win your stocking.

Hmmm...my favorite item was

Hmmm...my favorite item was usually my orange. It's so traditional and comforting. My least favorite thing is by far chocolate covered cherries. I loved them for one year when I was about 12 and since then my mom gets them for me every Christmas, without fail. And I try to choke them down rather than throw them out. Eww. I would love to see what's inside this stocking though, thanks for the chance!

We never had stockings

We never had stockings growing up and so when I started having a family, this is one thing that I did for the boys and I loved every minute of it.

Thanks for the opportunity to win.

My favorite thing was the

My favorite thing was the nuts all us kids got them and didn't really like them but dad did we loved watching him eat all those nuts.

Oh the best gift I ever

Oh the best gift I ever received in my stocking was a pair of ruby earings from my husband. We don't buy each other gifts for Christmas normally. So this was a big surprise! Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!

My parents never did

My parents never did stockings when I was growing up. I never really heard of such a thing till I moved away as an adult. We did them for a little while, filling them with mostly candy and little dollar store type trinkets. Eventually we gave up the notion because it was just too expensive as the kids came along and whatever we put in there paled in comparison to gifts under the tree and were soon forgotten. But to get one like this with traditional items from your heritage would be ever so cool! Since my stocking, when the kids were small, was always empty (coz I was the one filling everyone else's) it'd be a nice change to actually get one when no else does! LOL - Karen

I can't think of a particular

I can't think of a particular favorite, but I always love finding all the fun small treasures in my Christmas stocking. And I think it's fun to shop for them for my parents and brother, too :)

Your stocking is beautiful. I

Your stocking is beautiful. I love that you have it filled with the goodies. Looks just like it is Christmas morning.

Our stockings were always filled with candies and fruit plus some little trinkets. As an adult my poor stocking is always empty on Christmas morning. Maybe I should fix that this year.

(please don't include me)

The best surprise I got was a

The best surprise I got was a pair of tickets to see Phantom of the Opera. I think the shocker was that there was a pair and my husband was going to join me :)

My best surprise was a bride

My best surprise was a bride dolly when I was 8 years old. It came in a special box with different clothes and I suspected it cost my recently widowed mum quite a sum of money.
Beautiful stocking!

We don't have stockings over

We don't have stockings over here, but when I moved out I got a microwave for Christmas. That was a great gift I still treasure :D

Love your stocking. The best

Love your stocking. The best surprise was I received was 19 years ago when my boyfriend(now husband)put my engagement ring in my stocking.

The best surprise I've found

The best surprise I've found inside a stocking was a long time ago, was a hint-hint to find for a bike, because the bike was too big to fit in the stocking, lol, so Santa decided to put the note there, no matter to say I was so happy when I read it!!! Hmmmmm did you say you're going to add Matryoshkas and others surprises inside the stocking?, I'm a big fan of the dollies and stockings!!!, yay for all of us!!! awwwwwww

What a pretty stocking! My

What a pretty stocking! My entire family still does stockings each year. The best surprise I've ever found in mine was my mom's mother's ring, a year after she passed away. My sister had it, and we had agreed to share it, but I wasn't expecting it in my stocking!

Ohhh, my favorite was when my

Ohhh, my favorite was when my parents switched my yearly orange to a pomegranate! I fell in love, and still love to seek out pomegranates during the holidays!

I guess the best surprise was

I guess the best surprise was a trip to Paducah!!! My hubby stuffed envelopes, each one saying something different. One was for an airline ticket, the next was for a hotel room, next one was membership with AQS. All for the Paducah Quilt show.

We had small stockings when

We had small stockings when young that would be filled with hard candy - usually peppermint sticks. Then, as turned a little older, a tiny doll or matchstick car.
Thanks for the giveaway as would be a nice surprise to hang for my mother!

Oh goodness. I can't

Oh goodness. I can't remember any special surprises in my stocking. It was always full of small gifts and candy.

I don't remember the best

I don't remember the best stocking surprise- probably a gift card. Those really are the gifts that keep on giving- sad, I know. ^^

I just love that

I just love that stocking--Pink is my very favorite color!!
oh dear--I know we had stockings as kids--but I only remember getting things like oranges and nuts and candy--though I am sure there was some small items as well!!!
Hugs, Di

Stockings was not part of my

Stockings was not part of my parents culture but I started them for my own children - I still do them and they are 27, 24 and 20 years old!

When I was little there was

When I was little there was Barbie outfits all shiny and full of glitter made by my Mom. Thank you for this chance.

Let's see.....the best

Let's see.....the best surprise I think I ever found in my stocking was a dog leash. Little did I know that there was a puppy waiting for me in the other room.

Hum - what if I've never had

Hum - what if I've never had a Christmas Stocking? One year I did find a whole new wardrobe for my doll in a box under the Christmas tree - that was my best surprise.
The pin on the stocking you made is beautiful!

Ohhh!!! What a lovely idea!

Ohhh!!! What a lovely idea! I'll visit the other blogs, it feels like Christmas almost one month before. :)
I remember one year there were many many erasers in my stocking, I used to collect them. It was wondeful as each time I put my hand inside I would find another one, some really tiny! I have always taken my things out of the stocking one by one. :)

Love your embellishment! It

Love your embellishment! It takes that stocking to the next level of chic! Funny how I'm in the process of making a stocking myself.
We never had stockings growing up, and as adults only had stockings for the kids some years (I found they were sometimes too expensive to fill when you have six kids!). But one suprise gift hubby got me was Ott lights...2 of them. How he knew I have no idea because he doesn't follow my quilting hobby at all and I never mentioned to anyone that I wanted those lights. I was so very happy!!!!!
