Happy New Year! 2011!

P1010456

Happy New Year everyone!

I know I have been absent from the blogiverse these last couple weeks and now of course I have so much to catch up on and so many friends to catch up with. I hope you will all be patient with me while I try.

I did something I have often advised friends to do! I took what I call unstructured time off. A period of time during which nothing is planned - you kinda withdraw from every one and every thing possible and only do what you want to do in the moment.

Diane sort of did the same. It is very healing and rejuvenating and probably long overdue for both of us.

To celebrate a brand New Year, and the Twelve Days of Christmas, and to acknowledge the nearly three months of winter ahead, despite the lengthening days, I am having a little giveaway - the last one of the season.

The long, dark, cold days in the northern hemisphere - the best time to snuggle into a comfy chair, cover your toes with a blanket and knit or crochet!  It seems appropriate to have a giveaway perfect for the cold days ahead.

There is a $20.00 gift certificate waiting for the winner of the giveaway at Yarnia

Learn more about Yarnia here and here.

The certificate amount will easily purchase enough yarn for a pair of socks or a hat, perhaps even a scarf.  The cone I purchased above has been enough for a pair of socks and there is plenty left over for other projects - it cost me a little over $14.00.

The winner can use the certificate for either...

a pre-made yarn from stock or

the opportunity to actually design your very own yarn using Yarnia's online custom yarn creator.

If you don't crochet or knit, you still might find just the perfect yarn for another project like the ones below!

3068052307_8faa49753d

Diane's adorable little yarn dolls - yarn and felt folks as she calls them! If you go to her tutorial on Craftstylish, she even provides free downloadable patterns for the outfits!

Imagine how much a child in your life would love finding one of these on the top of their package next Christmas - or even on their birthday gift this year!.

P1050891

Yarn stars for getting a jump on next year's gifts and package decorations. Yarnia's yarns will work up beautifully for this project.

P1090492

Turn cone shapes onto trees or even angels.  I am working on an angel with some of the leftover yarn from the blue cone above.

P1090683

Since many of the yarns are very thin (so that they can be combined with other yarns), embroidery buffs may even find the perfect yarn for creating an embroidery project!

P1070183

And weavers - create you own yarns! Imagine the beautiful textures and colors you could create using the custom yarn creator to design your own, unique weft!

I often use two or three - even four- yarns together as one weft for texture and color.  But if I were actually wanting to use such a combination for a large piece, having them wound together onto a cone would be great!

P1080290 Ok! So - to enter - all you have to do is leave a comment and tell me what project you would like to make with your brand new Yarnia yarn!

This was supposed to be a Twelve Days of Christmas giveaway! But since I am a little behind - I am extending the ending date to January 15th. Giveaway will close at 6:00 pm PST.

International readers are welcome to enter.

Good luck to all and again, Happy Brand New Year!

Can relate totally to your post Pam! Think I've done the same myself, now that I've read your post, but hadn't put it quite that way in my own mind.
So glad that it has rejuventated you, and I'm hoping it has done the same for me.
I wanted to join in your cookie recipe swap, but sadly that didn't eventuate, sorry. Hope everyone had a very tasty time of it though! :))

So exciting to be pointed to Yarnia.. I have been looking for thin yarn to make doll clothes. I am also getting ready to knit mittens for my children, so I will have some deciding to do...

Happy New Year Pam! Both you

Happy New Year Pam! Both you and Diane deserve the time off. You guys are power bloggers! I have been staying away from the computer a bit and enjoying the family. Perfect time of the year since many bloggers took a break.

I love to knit socks but haven't made but one pair and they didn't fit. I think I need some practice :)

Happy New Year, Pam! Since

Happy New Year, Pam!

Since I'll be home very briefly (until the next work trip), I thought I'd see what you have been up to. Your posts are always such fun to read :)

Love all the possibilities for projects using this fabulous yarn. Just looking at all your photos makes me think about new projects and a project I need to finish. One of the hats I made in stranded colourwork was for my SIL for Christmas. Sara, my niece wanted to adopt immediately as her own, so I'll be making her a hat in slightly reversed colours so mom and daughter can tell them apaprt. My niece doesn't know yet she'll be getting her own hat ;)

Good Luck to everyone for the Give away!!

happy new year and it's great

happy new year and it's great to take time off... we all need a break sometimes! not sure if i'm eligible for the giveaway since I'm int'l but I do have a stash of yarn and just a beginner. Would love to make fingerless gloves if I can figure it out!

Was stopping by here to say

Was stopping by here to say Happy New Year & saw this giveaway... so... what would I make? My sister has been looking for an earflap hat, so that's what I'd make with some new yarn.

I want to make it

I want to make it all!

Knowing myself, though, I need to limit my plans to one or two things. I am enamored of the yarn and felt folks you show above, and know my daughter and niece would love it if I made some for them.

Happy New Year!

I'd like to maybe do a scarf

I'd like to maybe do a scarf or i'll get some very thin to use for embroidery. I learned embroidery as a child, but have recently decided that I need to start up again...and what an amazing way to start this would be.

I've been wanting to try

I've been wanting to try knitting a lacy scarf! A Yarnia gift certificate would be just the push I need - sign me up, please :)

I need new fancy yarn to make

I need new fancy yarn to make more crazy socks for my boyfriend! He is really not easy to please, but I recently knitted him my first sock and he loves it! He is even demanding more - so I need more yarn! :D

Great giveaway by the way! :*

Pam, I think the yarn would

Pam, I think the yarn would make a great pair of socks
to wear in my garden clogs - even tho' the temp outside says 25 degrees, I am thinking about spring and my 2011 garden!!!!!!!!

The question is not so easy

The question is not so easy to answer. Normally there are two possibilties: a pair of socks or, it the yarn is so great that I want to use it more or less as completly as possible for ONE project, a very nice little shawl.

Have a very nice and creative Happy New Year!
Best regards, Bianca

I wish you a very very happy

I wish you a very very happy new year.

I love the multiple colors of

I love the multiple colors of a blended yarn, without the worry of pooling. A shawlette for one of my nieces would be the project I would make with Yarnia yarn.

I think I'd probably make a

I think I'd probably make a textured yarn for use in a weaving project--though of course there's no such thing as too much sock yarn.

Hi I would love to make

Hi I would love to make something for my niece or nephews. Like maybe a hat mits blanket or anything that they might need.

Have a Wonderful New Year!!!!

Have a Wonderful New Year!!!! Thank you for being a great friend in 2010.

I'd like to get some thinner

I'd like to get some thinner yarn to make baby socks. All the baby socks I've seen in the store have short little ankles so they stay on for all of two minutes. I want to try making more knee-high type socks and see if they might stay on better so we actually can have him wear clothes that don't come with built-in feet! :P
