Whimsical Woollies by Marie Mayhew! Those of you who have been following me a long time know I am just crazy about Marie's knit/felt patterns. And now finally hurray! - she has written a book - a book chock full of every single thing anyone needs to know to knit and felt Easter chicks to snowmen! I am so excited it is finally on the market I can't stand it!
From just one pattern! Starting with that cute little guy smoking' a pipe, Marie shares how to alter the pattern to make a Santa Gnome, Matilda the Witch and even Lucky the Leprechaun! (The Easter Witch on the left is my own idea based upon a popular Scandinavian tradition!)
Several family members have received gifts I have made from patterns available in Marie's shop - this little guy sits on my Mom's meditation table.
I made a big snowman for my sweet daughter-in-law, but this little guy is staying with me. I love him to pieces.
Of course Wimsical Woollies shares the hows, and wherefores of making many projects - lambs, Christmas Balls, Easter eggs… but she starts with the basics - and not just a run through of the basics but thorough basics including how to choose yarn and needle sizes, how to felt by machine (top loader, front loader or Wonder Washer) or felt by hand...
...and how to make your project way bigger or way smaller. I have some Mini's in the works - bunches of them!!! Will be sharing them soon!
Embellishing! All kinds, all ways, lots of details, tips and instructions!
And this is where she really goes into needle felting techniques for embellishing! I am not so great at needle felting 3-D objects but I love love love needle felting designs onto ornaments, eggs, dala horses…. I just think that poinsettia ornament is beautiful, don't you?
I can't recommend Marie Mayhew's book "Whimsical Woollies" enough. It is available on Amazon here or from her shop here. And please do take the time to visit her Etsy pattern shop "Woollysomething" here. And when you do, notice the cool big owls on page 1 - made those for Mom too! And both my cat loving sisters - the lovely Wool Kitty Kat on page 4.
Prescription for getting Christmas gifts done EARLY - order Marie's book, make some of the patterns offered and then order a few patterns from the shop and knit and felt your way to checking everyone off your list!!
