Happy 90 Days until Christmas! "90 Days Until Christmas" is a big holiday at my house because it is the official kick-off to the "getting ready for the winter holidays"!

I am celebrating by putting up my 90 day count down to Christmas calendar and putting the final coat of spray on my Matryoshka ornament...

True Confession! Except for a little watercolor atc that I made for Chris last year, I have not touched paint since I was in college. Well - there was that youthful love affair with Casein paint when I was 12, but other than that, paint and I have never exactly bonded.

Make Easy Fall Themed Pinatas using Gourds

I just had to try this out to see if it would work!

I have been thinking for some time that gourds would make the greatest "ready-made" pinata forms! And, you know what? It turns out they do!! No paste and layers of newspaper strips and drying and more strips..... None of that yucky stuff!

Easy Summer Garden Tip - Make Gourd Planters

Since I couldn't entice a single bird family to move into my hanging gourd bird house this spring, I decided to fill it with plants! I cut and cleaned a couple more gourds to keep it company.

Some people use small saws or even electric tools to carve an opening in the gourd.  I prefer to use those ubiquitous little pumpkin saws.  The smaller teeth work better than the bigger teeth.

Before cutting, I usually draw a design on the surface, but for this project - I just cut a circle - sort of!  With all those leaves - who is to know it isn't perfect?

Festive Gourd Ornaments and Baubles

I am having way too much fun playing with gourds and I just have to share!

      - I decorated the two larger gourds in the background last winter and I have enjoyed them so much I decided to make a couple tiny ornaments using the same designs.

       - I had one little gourd that just begged and begged to be a snowman!

       - During the past year, I tried my hand at drying  a bunch of those colorful, knobby, little gourds we see in every fall produce display.  And I found a very simple way to make them very festive!
