Wheat & Wood

Quick and Easy Reuse Project! Make Beautiful Holiday Decorations Using Old Baskets!

P1090585

My unglamorous beauty shot! But I don't think it takes away from how cool these turned out!

My little recycled basket ornaments were inspired by two internet friends - Margit whose blog Papirklip og Aesker is full of the most wonderful Danish inspired, downloadable paper ornaments and Heather whom you all know from Dollar Store Crafts.

Celebrate Fall Harvest Season with a Easy Harvest Broom

P1080081

Guess what I just found for sale at Michaels? Wheat! In natural, pale green and soft brown! I saw it with my own eyes!  On the shelf!

So, I decided this is the perfect time to share how I make Harvest Brooms. They are the perfect accent to celebrate the fall harvest season which is just about to begin!

Brigid's Crosses

My very first Brigid's Cross or St. Brigid's Cross!

Some people worship the goddess, and some recognize and worship the saint.   Most of the links at the end of the post today are intended to share the stories of both goddess and saint. I hope you will take time to read them and learn more of the rich history and lore surrounding Brigid and perhaps find your own reasons to honor her by making a Brigid's Cross.

I am celebrating Brigid as the goddess of creative inspiration and expression by Making a Brigid or St. Brigid Cross!

Making Wheat Stars and Festive Photo Frames!

This started out to be a tutorial to show you how to make wheat stars. And then I got this idea that they could be used as wheat star frames for photos of your kids, pets or favorite relatives!  And then I got to playing around with fabrics and... well I am getting ahead of my self!

Let's start with making the wheat star!

Using Colorful Leaves and Mod Podge to Make a Fall Wreath

I love wheat!  I love oats! and I LOVE fall leaves!  Using all three, I just finished this fall wreath for my front door.  I don't pretend to be a wreath artist!  But I am happy with the way this turned out.

What I really love about it is that since I sealed all the dried leaves in Outdoor Mod Podge, they will not wither away in a week or so - which is exactly what would happen if I used "fresh" fall leaves.  I just am not willing to put a lot of work into projects that have very short life spans!!

The wreath is very simple to make - here's how.
