Saving Summer: How to Make Torta

In many Northern European cultures, preparations for the winter holidays often begin during the late summer and fall harvest season by laying aside or preparing traditional foods to be enjoyed at special holiday meals. This is the first in a series of posts sprinkled throughout the coming harvest season featuring a special recipe using fresh fruits or vegetables harvested and preserved to serve at holiday celebrations. Mini Pinata Advent Calendar - Christmas in July

Only a little over four months left until December 1st  - so what better way to celebrate "Christmas In July" than to get started making your Advent Calendars!

July? Christmas?  Absolutely!  "Christmas in July" celebrations have been a much loved tradition in our family since Diane was about 5 years old.  On July 25th we would take a trip to a local Christmas shop so my children could pick out a special ornament to save and then put on the tree in December.

Raspberry Blueberry Pie

Raspberries are ripe at the Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island!  K and I just got back from picking a year's supply of berries to freeze. This holiday weekend would be the perfect time to take the kids and go berry picking. How to get there? Here are directions!

Beading Ojos de Dios (God's Eyes)

I've been playing around with this idea of adding beads to a God's eye for a while now.  I used the the reversed weaving technique described in my previous post and then added strings of beads to the "wells".  If you are new to God's eyes or need a refresher, refer to my basic tutorial for weaving God's eyes.
